Light, Shadows & Wonder: Simple Light and Shadow Science for Early Learning

Watch our October 2026 Learning Lab on light and shadow play: low-prep early science activities that build observation, prediction and critical thinking.

· 1 min read · Megan Powell

Hand a child a flashlight and a shadow, and you’ve got a science lab. In this Learning Lab recording, educator and childcare leader Krystal Churcher walks through simple, low-prep light-and-shadow explorations you can bring into circle time tomorrow. Each one builds early science skills such as observation, prediction, creativity and critical thinking, while still feeling like play. You won’t need special equipment. Most of what you need is probably already in your classroom; the session simply offers a fresh way to look at it.
