How to use it

Four steps to put it to work this week

  1. 1
Post it in the roomFill in the room, month and year, then put it inside a cupboard door at adult height, with a pen attached.
  2. 2
Mark the week’s box as you goTick or initial the box when the task is done, not at the end of the week — the point is to know what has actually been done.
  3. 3
Share the tasks across the teamAssign the deep-clean items so they are not always the closer’s job.
  4. 4
File the completed sheetsInspectors and public health may ask for several months of records.

Tips from operators

What centers that use this well do differently

Learned the hard way across 3,000 child care spaces — and from the directors and educators who join our Lunch & Learns and Learning Labs.

Check contact time, not just spraying

Most sanitisers need to sit for a stated time — the checklist’s bleach step specifies 2 minutes. Wiping immediately does not sanitise.

Keep a ‘mouthed toys’ bin

In infant and toddler rooms, a bin for toys that go straight to sanitising beats trying to remember which ones.

Photograph the completed sheet

A phone photo at the end of each week is a cheap backup if the paper goes missing.

What does licensing expect for cleaning records?

Most regulations require that toys, surfaces and sleep equipment are cleaned and sanitised on a schedule, and that you can show a record. A completed checklist showing the room, the month and each week’s tasks marked off is a practical way to keep that record.

How often should toys be sanitised?

Toys mouthed by infants and toddlers: daily or immediately after mouthing. Other toys: weekly, or immediately after illness in the room. Follow your public health guidance if it is stricter.

Can I customise the task list?

The PDF is not editable, so the printed tasks are fixed. Write in any extra items your licensing regulation names, or keep a short supplementary list beside the checklist.

Is there a digital version?

Custom digital checklists in a child care platform can be assigned to rooms daily with time-stamped completion; ChildFriendly Pro’s form builder does this and files them into the inspection binder automatically.
